Gaza Warns of Possible Shutdown of Sole Northern Oxygen Plant
According to reports, the ministry described the facility as a critical lifeline for hospitals and patients, especially those suffering from long-term illnesses. It said:
“The plant is the primary source of supplying patients with medical oxygen, especially those with chronic conditions, in addition to meeting the needs of health-related civil institutions,” the ministry said in a statement.
Officials explained that the facility is struggling with repeated breakdowns caused by continuous operation and excessive workload, while alternative systems cannot be introduced due to restrictions linked to the blockade.
The ministry further warned that a possible shutdown would severely disrupt oxygen supplies across medical facilities and place patients’ lives in immediate danger, describing the situation as approaching an “imminent humanitarian disaster.”
It called on international bodies and relevant authorities to step in urgently to facilitate the entry of new oxygen production equipment and ensure uninterrupted medical oxygen supply to hospitals in order to protect patients and maintain essential health services.
Health officials have repeatedly raised concerns about restrictions preventing the entry of medicines, medical supplies, and critical medical equipment, arguing that such limitations are worsening the collapse of healthcare services.
In addition, Palestinian officials have also pointed to the impact of delays in importing spare parts needed to repair and maintain medical machinery, vehicles, and infrastructure required for essential services in the territory.
